Historical Background
On March 3, 1946, the Jidokwan was founded in Seoul, Korea, first known as Chosun Yun Moo Kwan, by Grandmaster Sang Sup CHUN, with Japanese Judo and Karate influence. The judo and shotokan influence on the Jidokwan can be seen in the Jidokwan patch, which is the familiar red snowman figure encased in a circle. If you take away the "head" of the snowman, then what is left is the present day Shotokan symbol, minus the tiger in the middle. The Judo Yun Moo Kwan roots are shown in the outer ring of the emblem, which is the same pattern that is on the Kodokan Judo emblem

1. I will observe the rules and absolutely obey the order of Jidokwan.
2. I will attain physical and mental discipline in the spirit of Jidokwan.
3. I will devote myself to the creation of new tradition and achievement of Jidokwan.




Internationalization of Jidokwan
In 1990 began the process to internationalize Jidokwan, culminating in the birth of a flagship independent body known as Jidokwan International in North America, with representatives worldwide including Africa (Nigeria, Cameroon, Mali, Togo, Tunisia and Morocco, others) to continue the fraternal Jidokwan Korean tradition internationally.
